문효진 (文孝進, Hyo Jin Steve Moon. 1962~2008)

 

문효진은 대한민국 출생의 음악가 겸 미디어사업가이자 세계적인 청년 평화운동가이며 인류의 부모이신 하나님 앞에 효정(孝情)의 모델이 된 신앙인이다. 1988년 재생(再生) 앨범을 시작으로 짧은 만 45년의 생애 동안 직접 작사, 작곡, 편곡한 15개의 정규 앨범과 2개의 비정규 앨범을 남겼다. 인류의 부모이신 하나님과 하나님의 뜻을 이루기 위해 헌신해 온 양친 문선명·한학자 총재를 향한 효정(孝情)을 정열적으로 노래하였으며, 참된 가정의 중요성과 사회의 부조리를 직설적인 가사와 화법으로 표현하여 대중에게 강력한 메시지를 전달했다. 특히, 2000~2002년에는 10,000여 곡을 목표로 불철주야 작사, 작곡, 연주, 녹음하여 가수로서 혼을 불사르는 놀라운 생의 의지를 보여주었다. 1986년 맨해튼센터 스튜디오를 설립한 이래로 미디어사업가로서 한국영화 ｢올드보이｣(2003)에 음악을 제공하였고, ｢울학교 이티｣(2008) 제작 작업을 진행하였으며, 그룹가수 ｢거북이｣와 가수 ｢차진영｣의 음반을 제작하였다. 또한 ｢예수의 초상화｣(The Portrait of Jesus)를 비롯하여 20여 편의 다큐멘터리를 제작하였다. 종교, 가정, 사회문제가 발생하는 원인을 분석하고 대안을 제시하는 사회교육 프로그램도 진행하였다. 1982년부터 1995년까지는 세계원리연구회 초대 회장을 맡아 냉전종식과 세계평화 실현을 위한 청년운동을 선두에서 이끌며 헌신하였다.

文孝進は大韓民国出身の音楽家兼メディア事業家、世界的な青年平和運動家であり人類の父母である神様の前に孝情のモデルとなった信仰人である。１９８８年1stアルバム“再生（Rebirth）”を皮切りに短い４５年の生涯の中で直接作詞作曲及び編曲を手掛けた１５枚の公式アルバムと２枚の非公式アルバムを残した。人類の父母である神様と神様の願いを叶えるために献身してきた両親である文鮮明・韓鶴子への孝情を情熱的に歌い、真の家庭の重要性と社会の不条理を率直な歌詞と歌唱法で表現し大衆に強力なメッセージを伝えた。特に２０００～２００２年には一万余曲を目標に昼夜を問わず作詞作曲及び演奏、録音を行い歌手としての魂を燃やす驚くべき生の意思を見せた。１９８６年マンハッタンセンタースタジオを設立して以来メディア事業家として韓国映画“オールド・ボーイ”に音楽を提供し、“Our School’s E.T.”（2008）制作を手掛け、歌手グループ“コブギ”及び歌手“チャ・ジニョン”のＣＤを制作した。又“The Portrait of Jesus”をはじめとした２０余作のドキュメンタリーを制作した。宗教、家庭、社会問題が発生する原因を分析し代案を提示する社会教育プログラムも推進した。１９８２年から１９９５年までは世界原理研究会初代会長を務め冷戦終結と世界平和実現のための青年運動を先頭に立って率いた。

Hyo Jin Moon was a Korean musician, a media entrepreneur, a young global peace activist, and a faithful devotee who had an exemplary heart of filial piety toward God, the Parent of humankind. In 1988, he released his first album Jaeseng (Rebirth) and during the short forty-five years of his life, he left behind fifteen full-length albums and two extended-play albums, which contain songs that he personally wrote and composed or arranged. His passionate songs were about having a heart of filial piety toward his father and mother, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Mrs. Hak Ja Han, who devoted themselves to God, the Parent of humankind, and to fulfill His Will. He also sent a strong message to the public of the importance of true families and the irrationality of society through straightforward lyrics and spoken expressions. Especially between the years 2000 and 2002, Hyo Jin Moon set a goal to write more than ten thousand songs. His spirit was on fire, writing, composing, playing, and recording day and night, and showed an amazing volition as a singer. In 1986, Hyo Jin Moon as a media entrepreneur established the Manhattan Center Studios. There he provided music for the Korean movie Old Boy (2003) and did production work for Our School’s E.T. (2008), as well as produced the albums for singer Jin Young Cha and the Korean hip hop group Turtles. The Studios also produced more than 20 documentaries including the Portrait of Jesus. The Manhattan Center Studios was also home to educational programs that analyzed the cause and presented solutions to religious, family, and social issues. Hyo Jin Moon was the first president of the World Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (W-CARP) from 1982 to 1995 and led the youth movement at the front lines to end the Cold War and realize world peace.

 

가족 (家族, Family)

 

문효진은 1999년 2월 5일 최연아와 성혼하였으며 슬하에 3남 2녀의 자녀를 두었다. 자녀로는 신출(信出), 신흥(信舆), 신녀(信女), 신순(信順), 신진(信振)이 있다.

文孝進は１９９９年２月５日崔妍娥と成婚し3男2女に恵まれた。子供達の名は信出, 信舆, 信女, 信順, 信振である。

Hyo Jin Moon received the Blessing with Yeon Ah Choi on February 5, 1999 and has three boys and two girls. His children are Shin Chool, Shin Heung, Shin Nyeo, Shin Soon, and Shin Jin.

 

 

탄생과 어린시절 (出生と幼少期,  Birth and Childhood)

 

문효진은 1962년 12월 29일, 서울시 용산구 청파동 1가 71-3 세계평화통일가정연합의 전 본부교회에서 태어났다. 세계평화통일가정연합의 공동창시자 문선명·한학자 총재의 7남 7녀 중 장남으로 어릴 때부터 탁월한 예술적 감각과 소질을 보여주며 성장하였다. 자다가도 새벽에 하늘에서 소리가 들린다고 할 정도로 ‘음(音)’에 대해 특별한 인지능력이 있었다. 바이올린, 피아노 등 다양한 악기를 배웠으며, KBS 노래자랑에 출연하여 우수상을 수상하기도 했다.

文孝進は１９６２年１２月２９日ソウル市龍山區靑坡洞1街71-3世界平和統一家庭連合の旧本部教会で生まれた。世界平和統一家庭連合の共同創始者文鮮明・韓鶴子総裁の７男７女の長男として幼少期より卓越した芸術的感覚と素質を見せながら成長した。寝ている時にも夜明けに空から音が聞こえるという程“音”に対して特別な認知能力を持っていた。バイオリン、ピアノなど様々な楽器を学び、ＫＢＳ（韓国放送公社）ののど自慢大会に出演して優秀賞を受賞したこともあった。

Hyo Jin Moon was born on December 29, 1962 at the former headquarter church at 71-3, Cheongpa-dong 1-ga, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. He was the first son out of seven sons and seven daughters between Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Mrs. Hak Ja Han, the co-founders of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU). From a young age, he expressed an exceptional artistic sense and skill. He has a special cognitive ability to sound, which would awake in the early morning saying that he could hear the sounds from heaven. He learned a variety of instruments such as the violin and piano and also won an award in KBS’s TV program National Singing Contest.

 

학력 (学歴, Education)

 

1969년 대한민국 경복초등학교에 입학하였으며, 1973년 4학년 재학 중 미국 뉴욕의 해클리스쿨(Hackley School)로 전학하였다. 고교시절 다시 한국으로 돌아와 1979년 2월 선화예술고등학교를 졸업하였다. 2003년 6월 미국 Unification Theological Seminary를 졸업, 종교학 석사학위(Master of Religious Education)를 취득하였다. 세계평화를 위한 청년운동과 사회교육을 위한 미디어활동의 공로를 인정받아 2005년 2월 선문대학교에서 명예신학박사학위(Honorable Doctor of Theology)를 받았다.

１９６９年大韓民国景福小学校に入学し１９７３年４年生の時にアメリカニューヨークのハックリースクール(Hackley School)に転校した。高校時代に再び韓国に戻り１９７９年２月に仙和芸術高等学校を卒業した。２００３年６月アメリカのUnification Theological Seminaryを卒業し宗教学の修士号(Master of Religious Education)を取得した。世界平和の為の青年運動と社会教育の為のメディア活動の功労を認められ２００５年２月に鮮文大学から名誉神学博士号を授与された。

In 1969, Hyo Jin Moon was enrolled in Kyeongbuk Elementary School in Korea. In 1973, when he was in fourth grade [the family moved] to New York, USA where he attended Hackley School. Hyo Jin Moon returned to Korea for high school and he graduated February 1979 from Sunhwa Arts School. In June 2003, he graduated from the Unification Theological Seminary with a Master of Religious Education. In February 2005, Hyo Jin Moon received an Honorable Doctor of Theology from Sunmoon University in recognition of his contributions toward world peace through his media activities for youth movements and social education.

 

세계평화를 위한 청년운동 (世界平和の為の青年運動, Youth Movements for World Peace)

문효진은 1982년 8월부터 1994년 12월까지 세계대학원리연구회 초대 세계회장으로 재임하였다. 세계대학원리연구회는 세계평화통일가정연합의 이념을 공유하는 세계청년들의 평화운동단체다. 세계대학원리연구회는 인류의 부모이신 하나님의 창조이상에 따라 인격완성, 참된 가정의 실현, 자연에 대한 인간의 참된 사랑의 실천을 주창하며 세계적인 평화운동을 전개하였다. 문효진은 문선명·한학자 총재의 뜻을 받들어 하나님을 부정하는 무신론적 공산주의와 유신론적 민주주의의 냉전체제 하에서 세계청년들을 규합하고 공산주의 종언운동을 펼쳤다. 특히 1987년에는 베를린 세계대학원리연구회 대회를 개최하여 베를린 장벽을 무너뜨리고 동서냉전시대와 공산주의를 종결지을 것을 세계청년 앞에 열정적으로 외쳤다.

文孝進は１９８２年８月から１９９４年１２月まで世界大学原理研究会初代世界会長を務めた。世界大学原理研究会は世界平和統一家庭連合と理念を共にする世界中の青年たちによって構成される平和運動団体である。世界大学原理研究会は人類の父母である神様の創造理想に基づいて人格完成、真の家庭の実現、自然に対する人間の真なる愛の実践を提唱し、世界的な平和運動を展開した。文孝進は文鮮明・韓鶴子総裁の願いを受け、神を否定する無神論的共産主義と有神論的民主主義の冷戦体制下で世界の青年たちを糾合し共産主義の終焉運動を行った。特に１９８７年にはベルリン世界大学原理研究会大会を開催し、ベルリンの壁を崩壊させ東西冷戦時代と共産主義に終止符を打たんと世界の青年達の前で熱く宣言した。

Between August 1982 and December 1994, Hyo Jin Moon held office as the president of World Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (W-CARP). W-CARP is a peace movement organization for young people all around the world, which shares the ideology of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU). W-CARP carried out peace movements [through its values] to perfect one’s character, realize a true family, and advocate the practice of true love toward nature according to God’s ideal of creation. Upholding Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Mrs. Hak Ja Han’s will, Hyo Jin Moon rallied the world’s young people and began a movement to end communism under a Cold War system between atheist communism which denied God and theistic democracy. Especially, in 1987, he led a march with W-CARP to bring down the Berlin Wall and called with great fervor, in front of young people from all over the world, for the end of communism and the end the era of the Cold War between east and west.

음악 및 멀티미디어 사업 (音楽及びメディア事業, Entrepreneurship in Music and Multimedia)

 

문효진은 청년시절부터 21세기가 ‘문화와 예술의 세계’가 될 것을 예견하고 1986년 맨해튼센터 스튜디오를 설립하였다. 이후 1집 재생(再生, Rebirth) 1988, 2집 Offering Songs 1989, 3집 Star Songs 1990, 4집 한국통일(韓國統一 Unification Of Korea) 1990, 5집 사랑과 약속 1991, 6집 지옥은 불탄다 1991, 7집 천전낙원(天前樂園 Paradise Before Heaven) 1991, 8집 Beat The Devil Out Of You 1991, 9집 Bag’Em and Tag’Em 1991, 10집 Devil Grinder 1992, 11집 나의 맹세 1992, 12집 Devil’s Nutcracker 1992, 13집 AXE6 1993, 14집 The Keeper 1993, 15집 The Pit 1994 등 15개의 정규앨범과 2개의 비정규 앨범을 발표했다. 문효진의 음악은 극도로 상업화되고 세속화된 세계의 문제를 묵직하고 강력한 음성으로 비판하며 참사랑의 심정문화혁명을 새롭게 외치는 또 다른 의미의 얼터너티브라고 할 수 있다. 부친인 문선명 총재가 서너 시간을 넘기며 열정적으로 말씀을 외쳐 선포하는 모습을 닮은 문효진의 음악은 보기 드문 심정폭발의 사례라고 하겠다.

Since his 20s, Hyo Jin Moon predicted that the twenty-first century would be a “world of culture and art” and in 1986, he founded the Manhattan Center Studios. He released fifteen full-length albums and two extended-play albums: the 1st album Jaeseng (Rebirth, 1988), the 2nd album Offering Songs (1989), the 3rd album Star Songs (1990), the 4th album Hanguk Tongil (Unification Of Korea, 1990), the 5th album Saranggwa Yaksok (Love And Promises, 1991), the 6th album Jiokeun Bultanda (Hell is Burning, 1991), the 7th album Cheonjeong Nakwon (Paradise Before Heaven, 1991), the 8th album Beat The Devil Out Of You (1991), the 9th album Bag’Em and Tag’Em (1991), the 10th album Devil Grinder (1992), the 11th album Na-e Mengsae (My Pledge, 1992), the 12th album Devil’s Nutcracker (1992), the 13th album AXE6 (1993), the 14th album The Keeper (1993), the 15th album The Pit (1994). Hyo Jin Moon’s music made one deeply ponder the extremely commercialized and secularized world’s issues, which he criticized with a strong voice. His music can be considered a new alternative to another interpretation of true love’s revolution for a culture of heart. Hyo Jin Moon’s music can be compared to how his father, Rev. Sun Myung Moon, would spend more than three or four hours passionately proclaiming the Word. It’s a heartistically explosive life that is hard to come by.

 

 

문효진은 사회의 문제를 바로 잡기 위해서는 ‘목숨을 걸고’ 있는 힘을 다해 미디어 사업을 전개해야 한다고 말해 왔다. 1990년도부터 20여 편의 다큐멘터리와 영화를 미국에서 제작하는데 참여하였으며 2003년에는 한국에서 ‘MCS Entertainment’를, 2006년에는 일본에서 ‘MCJ Holdings’를 설립하여 아시아에서 미디어 사업을 진행하였다. 가수로서 2003년부터 2007년까지 매년 재생, 역, 영애를 주제로 일본에서 공연하였으며, 한국에서도 2007년 3월 17일 영애를 주제로 공연하면서 활동을 재개하였다. 한국에서는 영화음악과 가수 음반제작에 참여하면서 미디어 사업을 폭넓게 전개하였다.

文孝進は社会の問題を正すためには“命を懸けて”あらん限りの力を尽くしてメディア事業を展開しなければならないと語って来た。１９９０年度からアメリカで２０余作のドキュメンタリーと映画製作に参与し、２００３年には韓国で“MCS Entertainment”を、２００６年には日本で“MCJ Holdings”を設立しアジアにおけるメディア事業を展開した。歌手としても２００３年から２００７年まで毎年“再生”“駅”“永愛”をテーマに日本で公演し、韓国でも２００７年３月１７日永愛をテーマに公演し、活動を再開した。韓国では映画音楽と歌手のＣＤ制作に携わりながらメディア事業を幅広く展開した。

Hyo Jin Moon had said that we should do business in media with an attitude of giving everything we have to the point of “risking our lives” in order to set society’s issues right. Beginning in 1990 in the United States, he participated in the production of over twenty documentaries and movies. He founded MCS Entertainment in Korea in 2003 and MCJ Holdings in Japan in 2006. Between 2003 and 2007 he was active as a singer and performed in Japan every year with themes of rebirth, station and eternal love, and in Korea he had a concert with the theme Eternal Love on March 17, 2007. Hyo Jin Moon expanded his media business broadly and also participated in record production for singers and movie score production.

문효진은 부친이신 문선명 총재의 댄버리 수감 기간 동안 면회하면서 특별한 15개의 시를 지었다. 문선명 총재는 1984년 7월말부터 9월 9일까지 15회의 면회기간을 통해 문효진에게 손수 시제를 주어 심정문화의 영성을 꽃피우게 하였다. 당시 작성한 시제는 다음과 같다.

  • 승리하는 사람
  • 나의 존경하는 천지의 꽃 – 너의 꿈과 아버지의 이상
  • 봄날을 홀로 춤추리
  • 나만이 높고 싶어하는구나 – 높고 넒은 세상조차 나를 환영하고 응하리라
  • 꽃과 향기는 한마음의 뿌리
  • 싸우면서 전진하리
  • 손꼽아 헤어 찾은 희망꽃
  • 곧게 살아보세
  • 앞뒤를 살피어 전진하라
  • 울다 웃고 또 다짐하리

文孝進は父親である文鮮明総裁がダンベリー刑務所に収監されている間、度々面会を行い１５編の特別な詩を作った。文鮮明総裁は１９８４年７月末から９月９日まで計１５回の面会を通して文孝進に自ら詩の題材を与え、心情文化の霊性を開花させた。当時制作された詩のテーマは次のとおりである。

  • 勝利する人
  • 私の尊敬する天地の花
  • 春の日を一人で舞おう
  • 私だけが高まりたいと願う
  • 花と香りは一つの心の根
  • 私は闘いながら前進しよう
  • 指折り数えて探した 希望の花
  • まっすぐに生きてみよう
  • 前後を判断しながら前進しよう
  • 泣き 笑い また誓おう
  • 夢よ いま覚めよ
  • 広い野を 力強く走ろう
  • 峠を越えていこう
  • 努力と成就
  • ああ、今になって勉強する

Hyo Jin Moon wrote fifteen special poems while Rev. Sun Myung Moon was incarcerated at Danbury Prison. Between the end of July and September 9, 1984, Hyo Jin Moon visited his father fifteen times and each time Rev. Sun Myung Moon would give his son a handwritten topic for him to write about to help his spirituality for a culture of heart bloom. The topics are as follows:

  • A victorious person
  • A flower of heaven and earth that I respect — Your dream and Father’s ideal
  • Dance alone with a spring day
  • I want to soar higher on my own — Even the great and broad world will welcome and respond to me  Flowers and its fragrance are from the roots of one mind
  • I will fight and move forward
  • A flower of hope that I found through ardent searching
  • Let’s live righteously
  • Advance while looking forward and backward
  • Cry and laugh, and have new resolve
  • Now awaken from the dream
  • I will vigorously run on the open field
  • Let’s go over the hill
  • Endeavor and achievement
  • Oh! Now I begin to study

 

문효진은 하늘 대한 효의 심정을 담아 미래의 희망을 노래하고, 확고한 결의와 목숨을 건 도전을 표현하였다. 이 때 부친인 문선명 총재에게 바친 시들을 한데 모아 문효진은 ‘승리하는 사람’을 출간하였다.

文孝進は天に対する孝の心情を込めて希望を歌い、確固たる決意と命を懸けた挑戦を表現した。この時父親である文鮮明総裁に捧げた詩を一つに集め、文孝進は“勝利する人”を上梓した。

Hyo Jin Moon infused his poems with a pious heart toward Heaven which sung of hope for the future, and expressed firm resolution and the challenges of risking his life. His father, Sun Myung Moon treasured all the poems he received from him and Hyo Jin Moon published an anthology titled A Victorious Person

 

문효진은 부친의 댄버리 수난 노정 기간 동안 형제자매와도 같은 축복가정 2세들과 함께 특별한 40일 수련정성을 들였다. 1985년 7월 6일부터 8월 16일까지 진행된 수련에서 문효진은 하나님과 참부모이신 문선명·한학자 총재께 효정의 결의를 바쳤다. 문선명·한학자 총재는 문효진의 정성어린 행보에 장자로서 참된 ‘효자’의 길을 걸었다며 격려하였다.

文孝進は父親がダンベリー刑務所で受難の路程を歩む間、兄弟姉妹である祝福家庭の二世たちと共に特別な４０日修練精誠をささげた。１９８５年７月６日から８月１６日まで行われた修練で文孝進は神様と真の父母である文鮮明・韓鶴子総裁に孝情の決意をささげた。 文鮮明・韓鶴子総裁は文孝進の真心のこもった行いに対し、長子として真の“孝子”の道を歩んだと激励した。

During his father’s Danbury Prison ordeal, Hyo Jin Moon held a special forty-day workshop with his brothers and sisters and other second-generation members. During the workshop held between July 6 and August 16, 1985, Hyo Jin Moon offered up his filial determination to God and the True Parents. Upon seeing his sincere footsteps, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Mrs. Hak Ja Han encouraged him saying that he had walked the path of a true “filial child” as the eldest son.

 

한편 문효진은 2005년 12월 28일 장남 문신길의 교통사고 사망(성화) 이후 신앙인으로서 특별정성을 시작했다. 자녀인 문신길이 죽음 이후 영계(사후세계)에서 건승하길 기원하며 미국 세계평화통일가정연합의 벨베디아 수련소에서 매주일 아침 7시에 2년 3개월간 설교단상에 섰다. 세계평화통일가정연합의 경전을 경건하게 훈독하고 깊은 기도와 명상 가운데 식구들 앞에 말씀을 전했다. 인류의 부모이신 하나님과 참부모의 길에서 승리한 문선명·한학자 총재를 향한 심정의 고백이었으며, 형제자매들과 함께 인류가 가야 할 효정의 길을 성찰하는 깨달음의 순간이었다.

また文孝進は２００５年１２月２８日に長男文信吉が交通事故により死亡（聖和）した後、信仰人として特別精誠を始めた。息子である文信吉が死後に霊界（死後の世界）で健勝であるよう祈願し、アメリカ世界平和統一家庭連合のベルベディア修練所で２年３か月の間毎週日曜日朝７時に講壇に立った。世界平和統一家庭連合の経典を敬虔に読み上げ、深い祈祷と瞑想の中で食口（世界平和統一家庭連合の構成員）たちに御言葉を伝えた。人類の父母である神様と真の父母の道を勝利した文鮮明・韓鶴子総裁に対する心情の告白であり、兄弟姉妹たちと共に人類が行くべき孝情の道を省察する悟りの瞬間であった。

Following the tragic death (ascension) of his eldest son, Shin Gil Moon, on December 28, 2005 due to a traffic accident, Hyo Jin Moon began a special condition. For two years and three months, he stood at the podium at the FFWPU Belvedere Training Center in the United States every Sunday at 7 a.m. for his son’s wellbeing in the spirit world (after life). Hyo Jin Moon taught the Word by reverently reading from FFWPU’s scriptures and offering deep prayers and meditation in front of our members. He confessed his heart toward God our Parent and Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Mrs. Hak Ja Han who are victorious on the path of the True Parents. Members were awakened to introspection of the path of filial piety that humankind must take with their brothers and sisters.

 

문효진은 음악가 겸 미디어 사업가, 청년 평화운동가, 효정의 신앙인으로 불꽃처럼 짧은 45년 3개월의 생애를 살았다. 2008년 3월 17일 서울 세계평화통일가정연합의 한남동 공관에서 심근경색으로 별세하기까지 변치 않는 열정으로 효정의 빛을 밝힌 시대의 인물이 아닐 수 없다. 문효진의 별세 이후 문선명 총제는 ‘심천개방원 충효개문주’(深天開放苑 忠孝開門主)라는 휘호를 내리고 ‘효정의 생애’를 치하하였다.

文孝進は音楽家兼メディア事業家、青年平和運動家、孝情の信仰人として火花の如き短い４５年と３か月の生涯を駆け抜けた。彼が２００８年３月１７日ソウル世界平和統一家庭連合の漢南洞公館にて心筋梗塞により他界するまで変わらぬ情熱で孝情の光を照らし続けた人物だという事は疑いの余地もない。文孝進が他界した後、文鮮明総裁は“深天開放苑 忠孝開門主”という揮毫を与え、孝情の生涯を称えた。

Hyo Jin Moon lived his short 45 years and 3 months like a firework as a musician, a media entrepreneur, a young peace activist, and a faithful devotee who had a heart of filial piety. There is no question that he was a man of our time that lit a light of a heart of filial piety with unchanging passion until he passed away on March 17, 2008 at the FFWPU Hannam-dong Residence from a heart attack. After his passing, Rev. Sun Myung Moon bestowed the calligraphy “He will open and liberate the deepest heaven and turn it into a flower garden as the lord who opens the gates of loyalty and filial piety (심천개방원 충효개문주, 深天開放苑 忠孝開門主)” praised Hyo Jin Moon’s “life of a heart of filial piety.”

 

“How do we go about changing reality? Oh, boy. Where should we start? Look at you. Look at yourself. What can you do? If that is the basic simple question that we have to answer, where do you stand? What kind of community can you make? Ultimately achieving that goal, that’s the task at hand. Somebody has got to do it.”

I Remember Hyo Jin Moon

 

“I remember Hyo Jin Moon at the World CARP Convention in London in 1989. At that time I was serving as the British CARP President, and one day toward the end of a very busy week with Hyo Jin Moon, we were watching the Hanmadang Sports Games. Suddenly, news came that one brother from Japan had collapsed during the 5K race and been taken to the hospital. Although there did not seem to be immediate cause for alarm, when I reported the incident to Hyo Jin Moon a few minutes later, and he suddenly became very attentive and prayerful. Within a few seconds, he decided, ‘Let’s go right now to the hospital and pray for him.’

When we got to the hospital we learned from the very worried doctors that the situation was much more serious than we thought and there was a real risk that the brother might not make it. Right there in the hospital Hyo Jin Moon led us in a beautiful, passionate prayer that his life would be spared, and indeed he recovered consciousness the next day and after several weeks of convalescence was eventually able to return to Japan and make a full recovery.

I’m quite convinced that without Hyo Jin Moon’s decisive leadership and prayer on that day, the outcome could have been tragically different.”

“I remember the calm stillness of a windless day, fishing with True Parents on the Hudson river for stripped bass. I was always uneasy getting too near to True Father’s boat and interrupting the concentration and intensity of his fishing. This afternoon, the stillness was broken as a Good Go boat came flying up the river, its wake spanning out across the calm water as it pulled a u-turn and came to rest alongside True Father’s boat. Hyo Jin called out to his dad; I don’t remember if he climbed on board, but I do remember thinking nobody else but a true son could express that freedom, the simple expression of love from a son to his father. Thank you Hyo Jin for showing that true courage, love and integrity can shine through the battles of life. We still miss you.”

Hyo Jin Moon is very much alive in my mind.”
